Zuli Jr. issues new single “Two” ahead of ‘Stop it God.’ album release May 14th

New York-based indie R&B-pop artist and producer Zuli Jr. has released another single from his forthcoming sophomore album Stop it God., due out May 14th via Nurtured Ideas, called “Two.” As the song title suggests, “Two” is quite literally made up of two soundscapes or sections that try to explain our selfish pursuit into creating ourselves. He keeps intriguing us with his new music!

“The first acknowledges this state of mind and tries to make amends, whereas the second is harsher both in content and tone,” explains Zuli Jr. “Coming from a more jaded perspective, showcasing the dark side of your ego that makes you feel as though you aren’t enough, even though you are.”

Listen to “Two” here:

Our self-perception gets distorted by what is meant to be good or bad by the things we see online. With Stop it God., Zuli Jr. sets the idea of a fictional AI, Daisy, that creates the world and blurs the lines of fiction and reality. Tying into the theme of the album, Zuli Jr. explains, “this inherent need to express yourself is more or less a selfish pursuit and can very easily distort your self-perception.”

In “Two,” Zuli Jr. sings out “pause the world and never resume, hold me whole I’ve broken into two” behind an acoustic guitar and a soft beat as the song shifts to a more dark tone and finally proclaims, “nurture perfect, perfect’s worthless / pull the curtain, underneath the surface is a kid who’s afraid to be wrong.”

The new track follows the previously released singles off the album “How to Feel,” which we’re obsessed with, and “Blue Sky.” Both tracks beautifully showcase Zuli Jr.’s acclaimed silky and soulful falsetto. Now that we’ve heard 3 songs off Stop it God., we’re even more excited for the whole album to drop next month!

Named an “Artist You Need To Know” by Rolling Stone on the heels of his 2017 debut full-length album, On Human Freakout Mountain, Zuli Jr. continues his sonic evolution from indie rock to a soulful, R&B-leaning sound on Stop it God., which he first introduced via the summer 2019 single “ur mistaken.” Since his debut, the multi-talent has amassed nearly 5 million streams, while receiving praise and support from the likes of Rolling Stone, Nylon, FLOOD, Culture Collide, SPIN, Earmilk, Popmatters, Atwood Magazine and many more.
