Yeah, I got a temper, but I’m just sayin’
You pushin’ buttons just cause you can
You know I hate it, but I belong with you, oh
But when I’m gone, I think you do
You shouldn’t worry ’bout someone new
Cause no matter where I go, you know I know I belong with you
Miguel takes the time to on this light-hearted record to talk about the strength of his love. The most traditional love song out of the lot, he lets his mate know that when all else fails she can rest easy knowing that he belongs to her. It is a very beautifully arranged record that could get play at a party or a wedding with the type of production/lyrics contained. Lenny Kravitz does not contribute any vocal assistance but honestly didn’t need to. The way he played guitar on this record takes it to another dimension and fills the track out. This song is in a similar vein as The Thrill. Easily the type you could spin while in a bad mood and let it carry you straight into happiness.
Fall on your faith like you faith for religion
The light in the way, you’re begging for forgiveness
Lost summers here as we both bathe in sweet sin
Leave it to me, I’ll give you something to believe in
You should be able to imagine the content of a song titled Flesh and Miguel gives just that. The track features Miguel using slightly different voice-effect than what most may be accustomed to. At times he is nearly inaudible mumble-singing words with a very great sense of urgency and determination. Definitely a track made for the bedroom. It does seem to feel more like an interlude that would lead into another effort that is sexually inclined when you consider the sound but that remains to be seen. I would also like to think Prince’s influence shines through on this one. At times it is indistinguishable from the sound that made him so popular. I mean if you’re in doubt just press play starting at the 3:15 mark and you’ll see exactly what I mean by that. On a personal level this is my favorite of the releases.
These bittersweet notions of forever
Blossom and find me in my dreams
At least we die, I hope we die together
Is I know that’s where we’ll be
The song with the most interesting title, …Going To Hell, is also the one that comes with the most interesting subject matter. Miguel uses a guitar-based backdrop once again to paint the story of a woman worth sinning for. The song seems more like a jam-session with shorter verses and the more extensive use of it’s religion-influenced chorus. It all comes together for an amazing audible experience though. Could see it being a single although I don’t know if the radio would be very receptive to some of the lyrics.
All-in-all Miguel shows with this album sample that he has some true art in store. Kaleidoscope Dreams was considered by many to be a classic R&B album and it would appear that he has the capability to top that with this next release. Already one of the best (if not best) voices in his genre it seems the songwriting is being done in a way to allow him to show the skill more than ever. The production style shown here also makes me excited to see what kind of performances he plans to cook up on the tour that I’m certain will follow. Pre-order now on iTunes and be ready when WILDHEART releases June 30th.
