A wise man named Meek Mill once said there are levels to the rap game. Well, maybe Meek isn’t the wisest person, but in this case he was 100 percent correct. The “overnight celebrity” you see that comes out of no where is usually someone that has worked tirelessly for years for their break to come. Adam Reverie is an artist that has grinded for a while, but seems to be coming into a much different zone in 2016.
After dropping the single Remain earlier in the year to great results, Adam would soon be experiencing something that I’m sure not even he could see coming. Already possessing a name that rung bells throughout his area of Detroit and certain corners of the blogosphere, his “level” would rise a bit after a resounding performance on SwayInTheMorning. This woke up quite a few people, including Royce Da 5’9 and Sway himself, while also leading to new audiences and fans.
The past month or so are the evidence of growth in “Westside Rev”, as he has seen his name grace plenty of publications. Aside from various interviews like the one here at 1DF and MusicOnTheDot, notable names lined up as well including DJBooth for a feature on his #SignRevToDreamville campaign, and a premier of his Remain visual on JoeHovasMF. It all culminates in this moment, the official release of his Soul Ties EP.
From the first word to the last one Adam bares his full soul (and dirty laundry) for the world to see. On the title track alone he speaks on his battles with lusting for the wrong women, and ultimately wasting the “Soul Tie” that is intimacy. Even on light-hearted lines like, “I wish my favorite (w)rapper was Magnum” the depths of honesty Reverie is able to come with are evident.
At 6-tracks long, the Soul Ties EP makes for a great listen and easy-to-digest form of music for anyone needing to be introduced to something they haven’t heard before. I was blessed with an early stream of the project and found it to be very relatable throughout, as we all have our own flaws especially as men. I highly urge everyone to check it out now and leave your feedback with Adam Reverie himself via Twitter.
