One thing we hold dear to our hearts here at 1DF is watching the growth and rise of the artists we choose to highlight. As we continue to progress as a media outlet, we love to see those who are “family” with the website do the same. One person who has done that is D.Horton, whom we have covered quite a few times in the form of features, interviews and performance reviews.
D.Horton has had what one can feel comfortable calling a “career year” at this stage of his musicianship. His album The Sessions 2 received widespread attention, garnering spots on YouHeardThatNew, ThisIs50 and other notable outlets. It was also a hit with his core fans, who actually crashed the artist’s personal website at the time of release. That project birthed a wealth of opportunities for the rapper, who has gone on to perform throughout the south and gained a bond with one of his home state’s true heavy hitters in Big K.R.I.T.
Co-signs like the one from K.R.I.T. has Dave The Rapper firmly on the watch list of several industry figures and fans alike. Knowing this fact, D. Horton is not ready to rest on his accomplishments, instead pushing himself to do better things than he ever has. A recent move to Atlanta from Columbus, MS has brought forth new inspiration that the rapper is ready to showcase on his quickly approaching new EP. He has made strong work leading up to the project with releases like What’s The Hook??, For Love and Dear Mr. Shakur all impressing with different styles of construction. If those records are any indication the new EP may prove to be his best work yet.
The new music isn’t the only thrilling thing on the forefront, with D. Horton also preparing for his biggest show to date. He will be gracing the stage at A3C Music Festival as a winner of the “This Is My Year” contest. The show is one Horton is obviously excited for, so to give him the chance to expound on his feelings we sit down for a 3 part interview with Dave. To hear him speak about the performance, his new music, moving to Atlanta and much more listen below.
