Toronto based singer, rapper, songwriter and filmmaker LaToya Jane just released her new video “I Want To Be Free”. The track is a mix of enchanting vocals and reggae-like rhythm, coupled with a gorgeous Jamaican backdrop- it’s the perfect summer jam.
LaToya started creating and performing music at the age of 3. During her time in a women’s prison the guards would pay her to sing, this urged her to start writing her own music. This experience motivated her to pursue her passion for music and tell her story, once she was released. Her dedication is reflected in both her music and film making. In 2014, LaToya won the award for ‘Best Director’ at the Commffest Film Festival for Creature, a documentary about her time as a gang member in Toronto.
