Following a year hiatus from new releases, rising Jamaican bred, Los Angeles based artist Zac Jone$ returns to prove his time away from the music spotlight was well worth it, with his new song Nostaljah!
Produced by frequent collaborator Iotosh (@iotosh), the record serves as the next chapter into Zac’s world of Yaard Rap — a style that combines Jamaican/Island dialect with Dancehall elements and hip-hop grooves and vibes — a place at which Zac stands at the forefront of the increasingly popular movement out of Jamaica.
The song will be featured on his upcoming MAN A YAARD project, and the release includes a uniquely designed animation video that brings the record to life. Designed by visual content director Acquille Dunkley (@adunkleydesigns), the animation video is centered around a pair of Clarks brand “Desert Boots” on a skateboard. This represents the symbolism of the place for Clarks shoes in Jamaican culture (comparable to Jordan brand in America) and the unexpected combination with a skateboard, which is unique to Zac’s experience living in Los Angeles, and the fusion of the two cultures that create his signature sound.
The main takeaway from Nostaljah is clear — Zac Jone$ is creating a wave that is not only an interesting new approach to hip-hop, but style that is native to his origin and identity.
The song is available now on all major streaming platforms.
