Chicago’s Sonta releases her latest single “Favorite Girl”

Machine Entertainment Group recording artist Sonta releases her charming new single “Favorite Girl.” The track premiered exclusively through PopDust last Friday.

Since making her debut in 2015, Sonta has racked up more than 50 million views on YouTube with a sound described as “R&D” (rhythm & drill). The rising Chicago native debuted her latest single “Favorite Girl” with pop culture tastemaker PopDust to rave reviews.

“Sonta’s melodic sensibilities and thematic material have also been compared to Toni Braxton,” says PopDust.

Her pensive and observant songwriting manifested itself on her previous single “Type of Way.” “Type of Way” is a ballad that explores human emotion. Soul Train award-winning publication, Soul Bounce premiered the music video last month.

Soul Bounce wrote, “She [Sonta] takes her man to task for playing with her emotions, at one point even interpolating a bit of Toni Braxton’s “Just Be A Man About It” to get her point across.”

“Favorite Girl” is a bit more provocative than her previous release. PopDust adds, “Sonta smoothly croons on the hook and comfortably lounges on the verses over a ’90’s-inspired R&B beat with a certain grace and understated confidence that is more than a little reminiscent of Aaliyah.”

Founder of Fake Shore Drive, MTV Midwest correspondent, and Grammy’s regional board member Andrew Barber considers Sonta to be the Mary J. Blige of Chicago. Her music has also been included on Refinery29’s ‘New Music To Know’ recap.

Other indie music blogs like Singersroom and Str8 Out Da Den have all praised Sonta’s vocal chops. Earmilk, who was listed as one of “The Best Music Blogs That Aren’t Pitchfork” in 2017 by Refinery29 said, “I like [her] solemn and sultry energy.”

Sounds So Beautiful added, “From Chance The Rapper, Saba, Noname and Sonta, Chicago is blessed with a great new generation of talents.”

“Favorite Girl” is available now across all major streaming services. Her forthcoming album Hood Love Vol. 1 is set to be released this Summer.
