Southside Jamaica Queens-bred artist Fortune has captured lightning in a bottle with his KADDYX4-produced singe “Sunkissed.”
Combining his deep roots in New York with Sexy Drill, the current popular sound from his hometown taking the music industry by storm, Fortune has crafted a buzzing, ear-worming anthem celebrating women and the inspiration they provide the emerging genre.
“I wanted to tap into the current popular sound that’s buzzing in my hometown,” Ty explains, pointing to the influence of Sexy Drill. The track’s producer, KADDYX4, a close collaborator and cousin of Ty’s, shared his vision. “I told him I needed some sexy drill beats expeditiously,” Ty recalls, and the result was immediate chemistry. KADDYX4 sent over two beats, and Ty knew instantly which one would form the foundation of “Sunkissed.”
The duality of the single is two-fold for Fortune, who explained how the power of place, shared in the comfort of good company, also served as a major source of inspiration for the record.
“’It’s New Jersey living, But it’s New York City nightlife’… those lines stem from conversations and experiences I shared with a certain woman that’ll always remain close to my heart,” he says.
With “Sunkissed” making its mark on listeners across the board, Fortune says his plan moving forward is to capitalize on the momentum of the release and flood the market with even more potent vibes.
“Playlist coming before the end of 2024,” he said. “Title for that dropping soon, so be on the lookout for that on all DSPs. Music videos are on the way of course and we’re working on getting the clothing brand portion of our company up and running by the end of the year so we can start selling merch beginning in 2025.”
