Bryson Tiller Interviews With Saint Heron

bryson-1

Newcomer Bryson Tiller recently sat with Saint Heron and discussed all things TRAPSOUL. The 22-year old Louisville, Kentucky native talks about his unique sound, how he cross paths with artists Timbaland and Drake, and songwriting for Jazmine Sullivan. Check out a few excerpts below, and be sure to read the entire interview here.

Saint Heron: Prior to “Don’t”, there wasn’t much accessible information about you, although you had a release, Killer Instinct, back in 2011. How has your music transitioned since then?

BT:  I think I’ve just grown a lot lyrically. I don’t just make songs that I think people will like. I make songs about how I feel, and hopefully they can feel the same way as me. Back then I would say “I’m going to make this song because people are going to like this because it’s talking about that.” Now, I’m going to just write how I feel and just hope that people relate to it.

Saint Heron: I know that you’ve probably heard this question time after time, but how did you come across the ears of both Drake and Timbaland?

BT: Me and Timb have a mutual friend, who is actually like my big brother. He’s helped me out over the years and has played my music for a lot of people. He’s actually like a celebrity barber and cuts all the top dogs in the game. He’ll mention my music, and he doesn’t really do that often. A lot of people would do that if they were in his position, but he’s only really done that with me and this other producer. Timbaland was one of the people he introduced me to in 2012 I think. When I released “Don’t,” they both called me like, “Yo, Timbo wanna holla at you,” and I thought to myself “That’s crazy.” He was like, “Bryson, I like that song ‘Don’t,’ man. Can you send that to my email?” We built off of that, and he wanted me to come to Miami to work with him. The Drake thing actually just came about. I was just on Twitter one day and somebody told me that he had followed me. I went to Drake’s Twitter, saw it, and I was amazed. Words can’t express. He DM’ed me and said he was listening to “Don’t” for months. It still feels the same when I think about it.

Saint Heron: It seems like real R&B is starting to come back, but with a new day alternative sound with artists like you, Tory Lanez, and JAHKOY. Who are some other emerging artists that you think you want to work with in the future?

BT: I want to do some stuff with Party one day. I want to work with a lot of people. Also, Kehlani. She’s about to take over. Who else is emerging? I need to get back up on my A&R game. I haven’t been peeping anything. I’ve just been so focused, but those two for sure.
