Frank Ocean has seen quite the shift since his rise with the popularity of his Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape and subsequent world-takeover with Channel Orange. Namely, the shift has gone towards about a year of internet threats in lieu of a 4-year wait for this moment. The moment Frank returns to the music world officially.
Thursday kicked off the new season for the Singer/Songwriter with a visual album titled Endless. This saw Mr. Ocean demonstrating some nifty construction skills and multi-tasking with an onslaught of new music as the movies score. A great gift itself, but it was ultimately placed on a bit of a back-burner with the announcement that another full-length album would be arriving over the weekend.
Fast-forward to now and the official sophomore album Blonde. This 17-track landscape comes flush with contributions from some of the industry’s heaviest hitters. André 3000, Kendrick Lamar, 88-Keys, Rick Rubin, Pharrell, and more all lend a hand to what’s sure to be one of the more ballyhooed releases of the year.
