The success of Marvel Studios blockbuster film Black Panther has sparked increased interest in African culture. The timing is perfect for Nigerian American producer and singer Meaku whose latest single “Summer Love” with Ricky Breaker and TEFFLER has the goods to be the anthem for the hottest season of the year. Distributed by New Heat / AWAL, it’s the first release from the trio’s forthcoming “Summer Love” series.
Produced by TEFFLER, the Los Angeles-based songwriter and DJ regularly featured on BBC Radio 1Xtra and MTV, “Summer Love” explodes with feel good Afrobeats and Meaku’s soothing, captive vocals. In the Chase Walker-directed video that recently debuted on Tidal, Meaku kicks off a desert party as he makes good with his lady as he denies having a summer fling with another woman.
Netherlands DJ Ricky Breaker also collaborated with Afrojack on the 2017 hit “No Tomorrow” that has more than 2 million YouTube views. Other Meaku writing credits include the theme song for the highly anticipated web series African Time, Karl Wolf’s “Yella” and Eddie Kenzo’s “Soraye.”
“Summer Love” follows Meaku’s “Africa” that reached No. 1 on iTunes in Papau New Guinea and No. 2 in Burkina Faso and “All I See Is You” that garnered 4 million streams on Spotify and placements on BET Jams, VH1 Soul and MTV U.
