Fresh out of the studio and and back on the road, Half the Animal has the wind at their back in 2018 and no intentions of slowing down.
Chase Johnson and Nick Gross met in the third grade. Growing together from such a young age they developed the kind of friendship that turns into brotherhood. They bonded over their love of music, in particular the give-no-f’s ethos of their native Southern Californian punk scene.
Last year Nick and Chase decided to take all they’d learned over the years and do right by music–their true love – starting Half The Animal. In a short amount of time HTA has accomplished more than most bands with record deals do over the course of multiple albums. Last fall HTA toured with Atlas Genius and with Smallpools and Great Good Fine OK last spring. This fall, they supported Lovelytheband – who held the #1 spot at Alternative radio for seven weeks this year and The Night Game, Martin Johnson of Boys Like Girls’ new project.
These new songs with Captain Cuts and Sam Martin are the cornerstone of the launch of Half The Animal. They have radio smashes in the can, but will be rolling things out slowly and building organically throughout the year.
“Magic,” which landed last year, was the first glimpse into HTA’s debut project Shut Up, Please – an exploration of a generation stuck in limbo: nostalgic for the innocence of a pre-Internet childhood, wrestling with the technology-obsessed society of today, and searching for intimacy, authenticity, and meaning in a digital simulacrum.
