Exclusive Interview: Meet Rising Artist Beama

What is your name and what city do you rep?

My name is Beama. I’m from the Southside of Chicago

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

My latest release is a single entitled “Got the Feeling “. It’s about picking and choosing not just the right decisions but the right people in your circle. Because majority of the people getting killed where I’m from are getting killed by their friends.

What is unique about you and your music?

I feel like the most unique thing about my music is that my listeners can vibe to it on a real personal solo level. Like I make music that you gotta be alone and listen to be able to understand fully who I am and what I’m trying to tell you.

What shaped your music?

What shaped my music was the things I’ve been through while trying to learn how to even rap or push music. For example… Getting money for promotion and studio time. This ain no 9-5 shit. So it’s most likely a story behind every dollar I invest into my business. So I turn those stories or feelings into songs.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

I started to realize I could do this for real when everybody started treating me fucked up. Then I thought like damn why people looking at me funny when I come around. And my uncle told me like “you know you gotta real talent. You ain shit having and not using it.” I noticed that it wasn’t that people didn’t like me. They saw more potential in me that I didn’t see in myself. So I saw that as a gift and said fuck. I’m all in then

What type of music do you listen to?

I listen to anything I know is coming from a real experience. And I just tell. Maybe through details given from the writer. Maybe it’s the question I ask myself after listening to an artist. I really don’t know how I know. But I can just tell when someone is being genuine. That feeling is inspiring as fuck.

What inspires you to write music?

My emotions are my main source of creativity. I can write anything at anytime, but when I’m in the same mood as a track that got emailed to me or played for me I just snap. It’s a dope ass feeling sometimes.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

Well lately I’ve been spending more time with my family. My kids…Tryng to get them to focus on family and education as well. And chilling with my siblings my cousins and what not. My lil chick be bugging me to hit the gym so I been in 24 hr fitness tryna go crazy. Lol. She thick ass fuck so that’s all the fitness motivation a brother need. So you can say I’m passionate about my people’s more than anything.

Happiness to you is…

Happiness is temporary. But Joy is eternal

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

I wish someone would’ve told me to save my fucking money. I love nice things. I come from nothing. So I used to always spend my money on things outside of music trying to look like I deserve to make it in music. I’m still working on that part. Lol
