Singer, songwriter and producer Jozem has returned to share his haunting new visual for single ‘Foreign’ taken from his debut album released earlier this year.
The music video paints from a daunting palette of muted and dark tones which perfectly resemble the troubled vocal melodies. The shadows obscure the details, creating confusion and absence of familiarity. With a mysterious composition, the shots truly embody foreignness and evoke an uneasy yet addictive feeling. ‘Foreign’ is a body of work which originated from Jozem’s sleepless nights having to confront the person he had become. This image is in fact prominent in the video, where scenes constantly revert back to his body curled up on a bed, existing in a clear state of torment which viewers perceive to be tangible.
Once again, Jozem has offered an outstanding performance. The ‘Foreign’ music video is a strong witness to formation of identity, it unveils the depths of Jozem’s being, which is something he simply deserves immense praise for.
Discussing the video process and meaning behind the track, Jozem shares,
“In life, with all its noise and distractions, it is so easy to just keep going with the flow that you lose sight of your purpose and forget how you got to where you are.
Foreign is about being lost and getting to a juncture where you are forced to face yourself and the person you have become. You start questioning who you are and question the relationships with the people who you love. Foreign is about bravely sitting in those moments of uncertainty, letting yourself question the things that you’ve been conditioned into believing about yourself, who you should be, and how you present to the world.
For me, it is often in my sleepless nights where I am alone and cannot hide where I have these conversations with myself and am forced to reckon with the demons that haunt me. Ultimately it is in these moments where you really can face your truth and strive to align your being and your actions with who you truly are and want to be.”
