Some of my earliest memories of rap came from the classics of the west coast. Artists like Warren G, Snoop, Dre and others definitely played a role in making me fall in love with the art. One young artist helping to keep that authentic Cali flavor is OC Lord. With a new single “Just Getting Started” making its round we chatted with him about his inspirations and more:
Tell us about your background getting to where you are today?
I was born in Long Beach raised in Lakewood then moved to Orange County now I’m in Daygo I used to rap at lunch with my homies in high school. Then I used to freestyle with my uncles during the family functions. Once I graduated high school I started throwing parties created a network for myself I was rapping here and there but the engineers didn’t take me seriously so they never mastered my music. Once I made only ones left song around 2016 I started taking rap serious bc the song got a lot of attention around Orange County. So then from there I got my United masters and my ascap and started dropping more music and music videos. Now here we are.
Where are you from? When did you start music?
I’m from Long Beach but I rep California.
What is the most challenging thing you have overcome in your life?
Investing and keep genuine people around me that has the same ambitions as me.
Who inspires you the most musically?
Snoop Dogg, Dom Kennedy & Nipsey Hussle because their hustle and marking is so impactful.
What do you want people to take away after listening to your music?
Never give up on anything you love.
What is the purpose driving you to pursue music?
To have fun enjoy life and speaking what’s on my mind and relieving stress on the beats. Also I have a story that people can relate too. I make struggle music.
What is your greatest achievement so far as a musician?
Being able to have people actually listen to my song and gain supporters who genuinely love me for being me.
What’s your music process like? How do you write your songs?
I like to write my music when I’m alone bored because that’s when my mind is starting to create.
You just recently dropped your record “Just Getting Started”. Tell us what the inspiration was like making that one?
Recording it with Marvin beats he decided that I should use auto since I always record with no effects on my voice and that record is just explains how my career started off.
Did you know that you’d release it as a single as soon as you recorded it or did it take some time?
I had it in my file for about two years. I just thought that I should stop sitting on music and release them because there’s no reason to sit on music when people want to hear you.

Wiz Khalifa
Tell us about any new songs or projects you have coming out?
I got two projects out “Oc Love Stories” and “intuition”.
What does a day inside your shoes look like?
Non stop walking stuck in the grind.
