French Horn Rebellion is composed of Milwaukee-born brothers Robert and David Perlick-Molinari. The duo craft highly fun, funky and infectious indie electronic that often has nu disco elements. Their new EP is the aptly called ‘Brothers’ and it is a four song celebration of their bond both creatively as well as personally.
‘Brothers’ begins with the instrumental “The Legendary of Johnny Cash”, a unique cinematic track setting the stage for what is to come. The next song is the heart of the EP and the title track “Brothers”. Danceable beats, nostalgic rhythms and funk-fueled bass intoxicate with every listen. The song also includes joyful guitar riffs, and an infectious chorus where they sing “You can go this way / I can go that way / We can always meet in the end,” showing their dedication to each other despite what directions their lives take. “Broken Hearted Fool” drips in nostalgia with 80’s inspired synths and shimmery keys. It is a perfect synth pop song filled with colliding sounds. The final track is “The Hopes of a High School Football Star” a melancholy song discussing toxic masculinity. Haunting sonics and layered melodies are hallmarks of this timeless sad song.
French Horn Rebellion has had quite the career, releasing music since 2009. They have created official remixes for Beyoncé, Sia, Two Door Cinema Club and their own releases have garnered both critical and commercial acclaim. Add ‘Brothers’ now to your listening list.
