Jane Doe thrills with new album Found

West Coast based Jane Doe has been making an impact on the rock scene since their debut in 2018. The collective has recently shared a ten track oasis of unapologetic declaration of raw emotion, pain, and rebellion. The album called Found, explores personal trauma, society’s ills, heartbreak, self-awareness, and rage with a mix of vulnerability and defiance. The sound is both chaotic and structured, dirty and melodic, as if the record itself is a cathartic release of tension.

The album begins with the heart wrenching and poignant “Bullseye”. The song chronicles the personal experience of frontwoman Izzy’s own stories of growing up and being told she was not pretty. The important song tackles themes of not fitting in and the hardships of growing up as a woman in a society that can often be sexist. The track starts with a sharp and jagged guitar riff as Izzy sings elevated and aggressive melodies. Then there is “First & Last”, a Led Zeppelinesque anthem filled with bluesy guitars, enthralling drums and soul-baring vocals. Izzy sings a tale of love so intense that someone loses themselves, “I’ve lost my mind.” Perhaps the strongest song on the album is “Dig a Grave”,a blistering good time filled with nu-metal guitars and sky high vocals. It’s a scathing critique on an artist trying to create a magnum opus. Other highlights include “Atlas”, a song that begins with colliding drums and searing guitars. The track details how important it is to understand one’s own limitations and how being self aware is often overlooked. “The Menu” is sarcastic and undeniably raw, with Izzy telling listeners 30 different horrible experiences she has had with men who are sexist and misogynistic. The song is expansive and all encompassing, with arena worthy rhythms and powerful vocals. “Pages” shows a different side to the band, the track enthralls with lush acoustic guitars and warm and emotional vocal hues. The final track “Straight to the Veins” is the ultimate dedication to the grunge era with the song being a confession on what it feels like to be helpless.

All in all, Found is a refreshing and invigorating slice of rock n’ roll filled with influences including grunge, pop, punk, and even metal. Jane Doe has captivated our ears with ten songs and the album shows the band at their most evolved and experimental.
