Southern California famed musicians Total Brutal, Hayley Batt, Misty Boyce and Kristen Gleeson-Prata release a new single and fun lyric video just in time for the holidays. Entitled “Everything’s Gonna Be Cool This Christmas”, the soulful indie pop jam originally written and performed by the Eels, is transformed into a unique version from these acclaimed musicians. The track drips with sarcasm but not in a hopeless way. Featuring layered 60’s girl group inspired vocals, jangly drums, and funk-fueled bass, Total Brutal’s “Everything’s Gonna Be Cool This Christmas” is the holiday song we all need now.
Total Brutal confides on the release, “I heard this song and immediately had ideas about how to cover it. I knew that I wanted the guitars to sound like Big Star, that Misty’s voice would sound warm and rad, and that Kristen and Hayley, the dynamic duo they are, would bring the rock n’ roll energy. I’m so pleased with how it turned out. I also really liked the message of the song. It felt kind of sarcastic and funny but hopeful”.
