Patrik Kabongo’s addresses police brutality in summer bop ’98 Degrees’

Summer is well and truly here in the Northern hemisphere, with reports of heatwaves across Europe, it’s time to flip those speakers on loud and play this fired-up tune. ’98 Degrees’ is the latest tune from Toronto rapper and songwriter Patrik Kabongo who wanted to create a “high tempo song for the summer.” He goes on to explains that it’s “Something that would have the blended energy of heavy trap bass and Lil Mama’s ‘Lip Gloss’.” The energy coming off that filthy bass line and Kabongo’s gruff vocal is putting us in some kinda mood and we’re here for it!

This ‘aint simply a bopping summer anthem, ’98 Degrees’ is also underpinned with an important message about police brutality on black communities, making a nod to George Floyd’s immortal words. “Please, we just want a peaceful summer” is a note to all those who have harmful intent towards black people.

You can catch ’98 Degrees’ on Kabongo’s brand new High End Pack EP, featuring six original tracks and two remixes.
