Exclusive Interview: Meet Rising Artist Zoe Gawd

What is your name and what city do you rep?
Zoe Gawd, I’m repping Hillside Jamaica Queens

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?
My latest release is called “Cold Summer”. I wrote it because it was a transitional period in my life and all the songs were inspired by changes. In love, in money and in life.

What is unique about you and your music?
What’s unique about my music is that it’s not trendy. It’s simply just me and my thoughts… when you listen to my music you’re hearing something that’s uniquely me because I’m only writing about my authentic experiences and emotions.

What shaped your music?
What shaped my music was my environment. Coming from Jamaica queens I got to experience a lot of different sounds and cultures, and being from New York that’s a whole experience on its own. Also listening to Motown and 90’s hip hop & r&b as a kid, as well as some rock and alternative music it definitely helped shape my sound.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
I realized once i started visualizing me making music for a living. There was a point where it was just a passion because I love writing and love music but I never thought I could actually take it seriously. That was in 2016

What type of music do you listen to?
All types. I like artists themselves more then the genre. I love drake, Nicki, moneybagg is a new fav, I always loved lil baby & gunna and thug. Also future, I love artists who create melodies. I also really love disco.

What inspires you to write music?
My life my experiences, my emotions. That’s the simplistic way to put it. Just expressions that need to come out. I just put it to a beat.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
I love business. I have a vending machine business as well as a THC business & other investments. I hope to be able to show my fans this side of me as well.

Happiness to you is…
Being able to be yourself. Simply put.

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?
Just do you, don’t focus on everything else it’s a marathon not a race. The people around you are the most important, not everyone is gonna see the vision at first. Be consistent

Tell us about your upcoming projects…
Right now Cold Summer is the focus, but I’m currently working on another album to release before the year is over.

Where do we find you music / music projects?
Just google me; Zoe Gawd. You can listen to me on any streaming platform (apple, Spotify, tidal etc)

Any last words for the readers?
Be yourself. There’s only one of you. Believe in yourself, that’s the only way you’ll ever succeed.
