Meet Rising Artist: Pridez

What is your name and what city do you rep?

My name is Shane ford aka Pridez, I’m a songwriter/rapper from South Wales in the UK, I’m from a place where we are the only country in the world that has a dragon on its flag

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

My latest release is the squid game rap. With my second YouTube channel I wanted to do something different then say, album songs, I wanted to make it fun and creative. So I started writing raps about influential people and topics such as Mr beast, Minecraft and Squid Games, seeing as it’s the biggest series on Netflix in over 90 countries, it’s a very popular show.

I wanted to twist the rap and relate to real life issues while being entrapped within the Squid Games. I talk about how the lower class struggle with life, money problems and the lessons you go through in life. Trying to merge the two together in a way that’s relatable to today’s world issues.

What is unique about you and your music?

I am very different to the modern day rapper, I don’t rap about money, sex and drugs or being a gangster. I rap about real life experiences telling stories about my life, with real and positive music to help people that’ve gone through the same trauma as me.

I believe that if you work hard enough and keep on your path then the universe will grant you any wish you deserve.

I want to be that underdog that no one believed in, that’s from a small town in a small country, doing something bigger than himself and showing the listeners that you can do anything you set your mind to.

That’s my message and that’s why I’m different.

What shaped your music?

I believe life events and the wisdom I have learnt has shaped my music that you hear today. I have been influenced by a lot of rappers in the past 15 years, I’ve had so many different styles and different ways of rapping. Now I have found my own sound and found the way I want to rap, I’m comfortable with the way my music is shaping and excited to see what’s next to come.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

I started rapping when I was 14, I absolutely fell in love with the snoop dogg’s doggy style cassette tapes that I had from my auntie.

I used to play it on the daily for about 6 months and I knew every word to most of the songs. But when a 14 year old kid is rapping snoop dogs lyrics you get a lot of shocking looks.

As time flew by I really didn’t record a lot of music but I was always writing. It’s only been the last 5 years where I took my music to the next level and wanted to do it professionally.

I think confidence was a big problem for me, but I guess I learnt to grow and now I feel much more confident writing and releasing music.

What type of music do you listen to?

To be honest I love all types of music, my main love is hip hop/rap but sometimes I like to put something different in my headphones like the greatest show man soundtrack. That is a masterpiece of lyrical talent. The song writing ability is just masterful and a great piece of art.

What inspires you to write music?

I know I mentioned this but mostly life events, it may be personal but I believe we all go through the same challenges every day, if it’s relationships, money, faith, world problems.

Everyday we are faced with a different problem and I believe a lot of people relate to the struggles and that’s what inspires me to help people that’s going through the same thing. If it helps them in any way then I’ve done a good job.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

I’m a family man, I’m not a recluse or anything but I personally prefer to be at home with my kids and girl just watching movies and embracing that warm kind ener. I don’t drink or take drugs so in my spare time I like to play some video games on the PlayStation or the quest 2, which is sick!

Happiness to you is…

Being content, not worried about the world or life problems just being in the moment, enjoying time as it stands. If money is your only happiness then you’ll never be happy.

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

Great question, I would say that things don’t happen overnight. Learn to be more patient but always continue to move forward. Be consistent, open minded and always ready to learn new things!

5 years ago when I started releasing music, I thought it was good and I got a lot of love from it but I now know so many different ways now to make it better.

5 years on, I wish I could rewrite a lot of that stuff, it would have been so much better.

Tell us about your upcoming projects…

I will be recording and working with Jamie sellers which is an multi-instrumentalist songwriter and record producer, with multiple international Top 40 records and one platinum album. Jamie recently worked with Ed Sheeran, Elton John and ladbaby on their number 1 Christmas song.

Any last words for the readers?
