VIDEO FOR “PART V”
PROMOTING PARIS FOR THE 2024 OLYMPICS
FROM HIS DEBUT ALBUM
‘THE FUTURE COMES BEFORE’
OUT NOW ON VERVE
Rising French electronic music producer and orchestral composer PREQUELL offers today (November 10) the video for “Part V” from his debut album THE FUTURE COMES BEFORE (Verve). For it, a live performance of Prequell and an orchestra of 80 string and percussion players is captured aboard a platform upon on Paris’ Seine River in front of famed Point Alexandre III to promote the city for the 2024 Olympics. It highlights the orchestral expertise of the artist and his ability to modernize the art of cinematic symphony.
PREQUELL–who is Thomas Roussel—has created music for prestigious brands such as Chanel, Dior, Kenzo, Michael Kors, Mugler and Nike as well as composed, orchestrated and arranged for electronic music icon Jeff Mills. Most recently Prequell teamed with Dan Black and Imogen Heap for the live version of “We Drift On.”
Somewhere between strings, orchestra and electronic, cinematic symphony and electro anthems, beautiful orchestrations and modernity, French musical artist Prequell‘s debut The Future Comes Before is a blend of remarkable instrumental tracks and rich young interpreters’ voices such as ‘BBC Sound Of 2015’ artist Rae Morris who appears on the lead single “Part XIV,” as well as Claire Laffut, Fyfe, Shy Girls and Cruel Youth.
The 15-track album was recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studio One and Air Studios in London with the London Symphonic Orchestra and Isobel Griffiths’ orchestra. Beyond orchestration and electronics, it highlights actual sounds from space: a NASA probe entering the magnetosphere of Jupiter (« Part XV »), gravitational waves emitted by two merging black holes (« Part XIII ») and the standing wave tone of Planet Earth (« Part IV »).“Part V” is featured in Mugler‘s recent worldwide fragrance campaign for Aura.

“In addition to being a highly respected composer and conductor, the many-talented Frenchman Thomas Roussel has also made music for mega fashion houses like Dior, Kenzo and Chanel – assuring that the clothes sound as good as they look. Under the sobriquet PREQUELL, he also conjures compositions that strikingly blur the lines between electronic and classical music...” — BlackBook
“Fashion runway shows are not the places I usually look for music to play on Echoes. But if I had looked, I would’ve found the music of PREQUELL, the recording guise of French composer Thomas Roussel. He does shows for Pigalle, Michael Kors, Christian Dior and other high fashion designers. He treats these shows as if he was scoring a movie and the sound is nothing if not cinematic… With The Future Comes Before, PREQUELL has created a 21st century symphony with the drive and melodic invention of cinematic orchestral music, and weds it to electronic aesthetics for a ride that is, like a great action film, never less than riveting.”
