Charm of Finches Stuns in Poignant “Treading Water”

Australian duo Charm of Finches return with one of the most candid and open hearted songs I have heard in a long time. Entitled “Treading Water”, the two take listeners on an intimate journey of two people trying to make the transition from lovers to friends and how painstakingly delicate that process can be. “Treading Water” features warm melodies over achingly moody guitars resulting in a stunning blend of chamber folk meets pop. There is a sense of nostalgia, yearning and emotional rawness that is palpable in the sister’s music. The deep maturity in their writing is rare for such a young duo and their lyrical integrity is reminiscent to greats including Joni Mitchell.

With a knack for strong storytelling, layered harmonies and Irish folk influences, Charm of Finches are a rising indie folk act to watch. “Treading Water” is off of their upcoming full length album set for release this summer.
