Michael Dean is a cross-genre artist who derives his sound from elements of emo-pop, and alt-R&B and crafts compelling stories around relationships he’s been through. His latest single “Girl Next Door” puts his own spin on the classic narrative and romanticizes falling in love with someone who’s always been in his corner.
Full of dizzying vocals, melancholy, heartsick notes of piano, and silky beats, the single laments over unrequited love. Even though she’s just a ‘girl next door’, Michael Dean sees her as so much more. He sings, “You can be a model on the runway or the cover of a magazine.” Directed by Derrick Webb and Chris Jackson, the music video tells a story of Michael Dean and his neighbor wanting to be something more, until finally, they meet at each other’s doorstep.
Dean grew up in Santa Ana, Garden Grove, and Anaheim where he fell in love with music through listening to hip-hop and immersing himself in So-Cal culture. Through working with Kavon Jacobs (A&R), his upcoming album Top Gun is ready to hit the charts.
