Oregon based duo Alma Mater have shared their debut single and it is an irresistible one. Called “Fading Moon”, the folk pop tune is a stunning narration on love, life and loss.
“Fading Moon” is an autobiographical song all about the fear of dying that comes from the intense love one has when they have a child. Andrew of the band confides, “When pure and intense love is experienced, there is a level of pain associated with it. I’ve never been more happy, but I’ve never been more scared. So this seemingly sweet, folky ditty is really a pretty dark, anxious proclamation.” The cathartic and catchy guitar riff was born when Dirk was in hospice care, visiting his sick mother. Performing for her brought her joy and “Fading Moon” also represents the magic and healing nature of music.
Alma Mater is composed of Dirk Sullivan and Andrew Paul Woodworth. The new band was just formed during the pandemic and already they are making waves with their mix of folk, Americana, rock and pop.
